Haig Homes R.A. N.H. 1939-45 Goathlands Avenue
Haig Homes. Ten 3-bedroomed semi-detached houses, Nos 57-76 Goathlands Avenue.
There are two plaques on walls of two houses which form three sides of a quadrangle.
The two plaques are circular and carries the badge of the Royal Artillery raised in half relief at centre. Around the edge are the words “Royal Artillery War Memorial 1939-1945”, raised in half relief using Roman capitals.
1. Another set of houses was built in Sunderland. See
S140.122
2. The houses have been upgraded to meet modern building standards.
3. There are now only two round plaques on the houses, each bearing the R.A. badge with the words “Royal Artillery War Memorial 1939-1945” round the edge.
4. There is supposed to be a third rectangular plaque to the Northumberland Hussars from World War 2 which read :-
"Northumberland Hussars
War Memorial
presented by
The Northumberland Hussars
in memory of their comrades 1939-1945"
1. When this location was last visited in 2013 there was no trace of the third rectangular plaque.
